The Best Hermes Oran Sandal Dupes: I Tested a Cheap Target Pair Against $80 Leather Ones
So I've wanted a pair of Hermes Oran sandals for a while now, but I'm just not ready to spend a thousand dollars on shoes. I'm okay spending that on a bag I'll have for years and that won't degrade the way shoes do, but sandals? Not yet. Maybe you think that's stupid and I honestly get it. So instead I went looking for Hermes sandal dupes, and I ended up with two pairs that could not be more different. One of them I've been wearing for over a year. The other one cost more, is made of real leather, and I want to send it back.
The Target Hermes Dupe I Bought on a Whim
The first pair I literally just saw on Target's website and thought, oh, that looks cute, let's just buy it. They were so cheap that I fully assumed they'd be trash. And then I had them for over a year. These are the Women's Nina Slide Sandals in A New Day Cognac, and honestly they look amazing. They're so comfortable that I got to a point where I thought, you know what, these are so good that I want to upgrade to something nicer.
One sizing note: my usual size is 8.5 US and I sized down to an 8 in these. That worked out perfectly for me.
The One Problem With the Target Sandals
They're not leather, obviously. And on a really hot, humid day the strap starts to rub against my toe right here, which kind of hurts a little bit. I've never actually gotten a blister from them, so it's not a dealbreaker, but it's the reason I went looking for a leather version. On a normal day they're amazing. On a super hot day, less amazing.
The Steve Madden Leather Hermes Dupe
So I bought the Steve Madden Hadyn Slide Sandals, where the strap is real leather. The part underneath the sole isn't leather, which is fine with me, because if it were real leather it would probably get used up a lot faster. The strap was the only part I actually needed to be leather so it wouldn't rub against my toes.
Side by side they're very similar but not exactly the same. The Steve Madden ones look more natural and more like the actual Hermes, since the Target pair doesn't have the stitching, so that one is more of a knockoff. The Steve Madden pair also has a really nice cushion on the bottom that runs the whole length of the shoe, which is lovely for your heels.
Why I'm Not Keeping the Expensive Pair
Here's where it fell apart for me. They are extremely stiff. Like a brick. I literally can't bend them. The Target pair is stiff too, but it's noticeably more flexible. And when I was just walking around my apartment in the Steve Madden ones I was actually sliding. They were not comfortable, which is so disappointing because they feel nice in your hands. That cushion looked great and then turned out to be basically non existent once I was standing in them.
Then there's the quality. I got these brand new and there's a chipped spot with a piece of fabric just missing. That's not great for a shoe that came out to around $80 with tax. The leather itself is stiff and it kind of looks cheap, honestly. The details just look rushed and clearly manufactured. It's not bad leather exactly, it's just not a high quality shoe.
Do Steve Madden Sandals Run Small? Size Up
This is the part I'd really pay attention to if you're ordering. Technically 8.5 should be my size. I checked the measurements, I looked at how long the sole is, and it should have fit me. It doesn't. It's too small. And here's the wild part: the Target sandal in a size 8 is longer than the Steve Madden in an 8.5. So if you're planning to buy these, size up.
So What's the Best Hermes Oran Dupe?
For me it's the cheap one, which I did not expect to be saying. The Target sandals are amazing value for what you get, and at this point they're already worn in and I'll probably just stick with them. The only things I like about the Steve Madden pair are the cushion, the stitching, and the fact that the strap is real leather.
I ordered mine through Macy's, which had genuinely great shipping and got them to me within a day. That part was nice. The shoes themselves, not so much.
I'm still looking for a good leather option, so I've also had my eye on the Vince Dakota II Mule in Honey Brown as a slightly more elevated alternative. What I really wish is that Target would just release a real leather version of the sandals I already love. I'd pay $300 for that in a second. Unfortunately, they don't have it.
