Narwal Freo 20 Robot Vacuum Review: Is the Track Mop Actually Worth It?
If you've been staring at the Narwal Freo 20 robot vacuum and mop wondering whether that track mop is just a gimmick or an actual upgrade, I get it, I wondered the same thing. I've been running this robot in my own apartment for a few weeks now, and I wanted to break down exactly what it does well, where it falls short, and whether it's worth adding to your home over a more traditional robot vacuum and mop.
What Makes the Narwal Freo 20 Different From Every Other Robot Vacuum
Most robot vacuums on the market right now use spinning mop pads, and honestly, I've had my issues with that setup. Even the expensive robot vacuums I've owned, some that cost close to $2,000, still left me scrubbing my floors by hand because the pads pick up dirty water and just push it back around. The Narwal Freo 20 skips the spinning pads entirely and uses a track mop instead, with 60 nozzles spraying 140°F hot water in real time while it cleans. That means the mop is constantly being rinsed with hot, fresh water instead of dragging around whatever it already picked up.
How the Self Cleaning Mop Actually Works
There's a small built in scraper that continuously removes dirt from the track mop as it rotates, and the whole system applies 12N of downward pressure in a single pass. In practice, this is what solves the problem I mentioned above, since the mop should never be working with dirty water. I'm planning to check back in with a longer term update once I've had more time with it, but so far this has been the standout feature.
Zero Tangle Brushes and How Quiet This Robot Actually Is
I've owned a few Narwal robot vacuums at this point, and the zero tangle technology has consistently worked well for me, even with long hair and a dog in the house. Narwal claims 99.56% hair capture, SGS certified, and I haven't had to pull tangled hair off the brushes once. The other thing that genuinely surprised me is how quiet this robot is. I've tested plenty of robot vacuums that claim to be quiet and just aren't, but the Freo 20 runs at 31,000 PA suction power and is still nearly silent while mapping and cleaning, quieter even than my previous Narwal Z Ultra.
Navigation, Cameras, and Climbing Over Thresholds
It mapped my entire apartment in about six minutes, which felt fast compared to other robots I've used. The built in cameras let you look around your home while it's cleaning, and it can recognize over 300 different objects, so it'll flag things like cables, clothing, or your pet directly in the app. It also climbs over thresholds up to four centimeters tall without getting stuck, which was a real problem with one of my older robot vacuums that eventually broke its wheels trying to get over a much smaller threshold.
Small Extras Worth Knowing About
A few smaller details stood out to me. There's a baby mode that lets you mark certain rooms as quiet zones, the dust bag holds 2.4 liters and is rated to last about 120 days, and it has fast charging if you're cleaning a bigger space and it needs to recharge mid session.
The One Thing I Wish It Had
My previous Narwal Z Ultra had an automatic detergent dispenser, and I loved that feature. The Freo 20 doesn't have it, so you have to apply detergent to the clean water tank manually. It's not a dealbreaker for me personally, but if you're used to that convenience, it's worth knowing going in.
My Honest Verdict on the Narwal Freo 20
So far, I really like this robot vacuum. If you have vinyl floors, pets, or you've been frustrated by spinning mop pads leaving your floors less clean than you'd expect, the track mop system genuinely solves a problem I've personally dealt with for years.
